In this section of our website we have assembled information which we hope will be helpful to girls and their parents who are considering applying for a place at Heathfield School.
If you have any questions please contact the Admissions Secretary, Mrs Jane Smith, who will be pleased to help.
Admission to the Junior School
The main intake to the Junior School is at 3+ (lower kindergarten) and 4+ (kindergarten). Prospective pupils are invited for small group assessment with the Junior School Headmistress. Procedures are designed to be straightforward and comfortable for both girls and parents.
Transfer from the Junior School to the Senior Department is automatic but
girls take the Entrance Examination in order to compete for Academic Scholarships.
Admission to the Senior School
The main age of entry is at 11+ and admission is by examination held in January, interview and reference or report from the current school. Admission at this stage is competitive and scholarships and bursaries are available for outstanding candidates. The full entry procedures are set out in a brochure available from the Admissions Secretary.
Girls applying at other ages may be admitted after an entrance test, interview and reference if places are available. A waiting list for vacancies is maintained.
Girls are admitted to Heathfield School on the basis of their academic potential and ability, without reference to religious or ethnic background or beliefs. Every effort is made to ensure that there is equality of opportunity to enter and achieve. Each pupil is admitted on her own merit and preferential treatment is not given to siblings.
Admission to Sixth Form
We welcome new students at Sixth Form level who are admitted on GCSE results and required to sit an entrance examination and are invited for interview with the Head of Sixth Form and other relevant Heads of Departments.
Applications should be made during Year 11. A preliminary discussion with the Head of Sixth Form is arranged as early as possible, in order to discuss the candidate's likely preferred choices of AS and A2-Level subjects.
Offers of places in the Sixth Form are conditional on GCSE results. All students are normally expected to gain at least an A or B grade in the subjects to be studied at AS-Level but each case would be judged on its own merits. You may choose a maximum of two subjects at AS that you have not previously studied at GCSE. Please contact us for specific entry requirements for each subject.
Candidates wishing to apply for a Sixth Form scholarship will need to sit the scholarship examinations, which are held in the Autumn Term and are open to external candidates. Candidates will be required to sit scholarship papers in two of the subjects they wish to study at AS-Level. Interviews may also be held.
