100% Pass Rate
Once again, we achieved excellent results in the public examinations this summer, creating new records for the school. All the girls are to be congratulated on their outstanding achievements.
Heathfield is listed in The Times Top 100 Top Girls' Schools list (dated Saturday August 29th 2009) and The Daily Telegraph Independent Schools A Level Results league tables (dated Saturday August 29th 2009).
Advanced Level 2009
Pass rate at A-Level was 100% with 45% of all the grades at A. A massive 74% of the passes were at grades A and B alone, guaranteeing the girls their university places. Over 80% of our students are going on to good universities of their first choice.
GCSE 2009
At GCSE we scored a 100% pass rate, with the girls achieving an average of 9.5 passes each. 70% of all the grades were at A* and A alone (again, an increase on 2007 and 2008 results), with 88% at A*, A and B. Sixteen girls obtained all A* and A grades in all of their 10 subjects.
“All these superb results are a credit to the girls' ability and effort, alongside the hard work and dedication of the staff. They confirm Heathfield's place as one of the top schools in London.”

DSCF League tables:
There are no national value-added or CVA scores for independent schools because the DCSF does not have the necessary data on these pupils.
The GDST schools have a robust internal value-added assessment, as part of the benchmark information, which can be viewed. This is produced for the GDST by the University of Durham and uses the assessments which are done in Juniors (PIPS) and Seniors (MidYIS and ALIS), as well as GCSE and A Level results. The idea is the same as the DCSF method – to compare how pupils did against what they were expected to achieve and to show have they made better progress than might have been predicted, allowing for their ability.
The DCSF publishes their annual national school league table in January.
Although useful in some ways this data should be treated with caution because:
- It is based on Points Per Candidate (PPC), so is heavily weighted to schools which enter students for as many subjects as possible. The GDST prefer to maximise individual results in each student’s subjects
- It understates the importance of top grades : especially A*/A at GCSE and A/B at A Level measures, which are used in Times and Telegraph league tables each autumn and are a better measure of pupil performance, especially with able pupils aiming at high demand courses at top universities.
- It excludes IGCSE results, which Heathfield School offers in Maths and Science, which are not offered by state schools
- It includes qualifications which Heathfield School do not intend to offer e.g. vocational Diplomas, which can be worth 4 GCSEs in points value
