 Welcome to Heathfield School

An Independent Day School for Girls aged 3-18

A personal welcome from our Headmistress Mrs Susan Whitfield, MA (Cambridge):

Welcome to Heathfield School, an independent academic day school in Pinner for girls aged 3-18.  It is conveniently situated between Eastcote and Rayners’ Lane underground stations, on the 398 and H12 bus routes. I usually walk from the tube each day – it is an enjoyable stroll along pleasant roads.

At Heathfield, we know from experience how hard it can feel to find the right school. Whatever the subjects your daughter eventually chooses to study at university, I am sure that you want her to spend her school years happy and fulfilled, proud of her achievements, her friends, her school, and above all, herself and her personal values. You no doubt hope that she will become a confident young woman who has learned the value of study for its own sake, as well as a way to take her forwards in her life. She should have great opportunities in every way, and as well as the best examination results she can reasonably achieve, she should have enjoyed the widest range of activities - creative, sporting, and those relating to responsibility for herself and others. You will want her to be the sort of young adult who is the best kind of role model for others, whether at home or at university or at work, and who is happy to be herself, and yet can understand and support others effectively.

Heathfield School provides all these opportunities, and more. Each girl, at every age, is individually valued for herself every day, as well as being encouraged to be the best she can be in all areas of her life and work. A ten-year old now is likely to work until about 2070 or so before she retires. For Heathfield pupils, careers and lives may be all the more interesting and satisfying because they studied the language and culture of China for some years at school, and because they followed an industry-standard leadership course in the sixthform as part of their personal education. Your daughter may choose to balance her career with that of motherhood, followed by grandmotherhood. Her school experience will play a very significant role in understanding how to respond to the challenges involved, without excessive strain on her relationships or herself.

Our students and their families tell me that the things they particularly appreciate here are the happy atmosphere, their friendships, the inspiring teaching (we have high ‘value added’ scores, showing that our pupils fulfil their potential whatever their natural ability) and the great range of opportunities for excellence on offer with all our fine facilities.

We hope you will come to see us on our Open Evening on Tuesday September 28th, or at our Open Day on Saturday, October 16th. We will do all we can to help you find it easy to make the right decision. With five children, I know from personal experience of the complexities involved in the process, but also that any concerns are easily sorted out just by talking about them when we meet.

I look forward very much to seeing you here, and answering any questions you may have.
